"Another year older, another year wiser". On Sunday, July 27, 2014 I spent my 22nd birthday in Pittsburgh PA, with friends and family. On this day, I took part in many activities. I am a sentimental person, so when I found out my birthday was on a Sunday I felt it was God's doing.
The night before my birthday, I got on my knees before bed and prayed to God that he would send me a word of encouragement and reassurance in church. I asked him to guide my life in the direction that he wants it to go. I want him to be in full control. Almost every night, I pray for my family, friends, and enemies, because I know God wouldn't steer me wrong.
The next morning in church at the Bible Center in Pittsburgh, PA , Pastor John Wallace Jr. preached about "Is your passion for the Lord?". Meaning whatever your passion or desire is in life, are you using it for the goodness of the Lord.
I was touched by the sermon because I started thinking to myself, "here I am in Pittsburgh pursuing my dream of becoming a journalist." I have always trusted in the Lord to guide me. As long as I continue to put in the work, he will continue to do the rest. So, when Pastor Wallace asked the question, " Is your passion for the Lord?" I began to wonder if my passion is truly for the Lord.
I'm an aspiring journalist, blogger, and photographer. Being here and teaching the Bridge to College students, I believe I'm using my passion for the right reasons. I am teaching others just how God teaches me everyday. Also, I am getting more involved with church events and becoming more active in the Church. On last Sunday, I helped with Vacation Bible School, helping the young children with football and teaching the mighty works and importance of God. The children are the future and it's our duty as young adults and adults to guide them and show them right from wrong.
I am truly humbled and blessed to have these opportunities. This summer I have been to Pittsburgh PA, Dallas TX, Baltimore MA, New York, NY and Washington DC. I 've been able to see and learn many things I have never experienced before. Interning at American Urban Radio Networks, and working at Homewood Children's Village Bridge to College Program has been amazing! My goal this summer was to grow in my career field learning more about Mass Communications. I want to learn as much as possible, so that I can better my craft. With this being my last semester of school at Jackson State University, I'm a little nervous about what life is going to be after college.
I know life after college is not going to be a walk in the park, but God will guide my path. Right now, I pray that I will graduate with either a job offer or continue my education in graduate school. Either way, I pray my passion continues to touch people in positive ways, and continue to be for God!!
