Writer: Tenesha Hughes In stead of "sipping tea", Beyonce shared a big refreshing glass of "Lemonade". On April 23, Beyonce released the visual album "Lemonade". It was nothing like you've ever seen before, it showcased fashion, art, music and so much more. During the hour long HBO special, the singer cleared out rumors about her cheating husband, shared home videos with her father, and loving family videos with her daughter. Not only that, but she gave an amazing imagery of the movement "Black Lives Matter" by having mothers who's sons were killed in senseless violence. (Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, are few who can been seen in the video) *See Image below* This isn't the first time Beyonce has shown her support for her "black" culture. This album corresponds to her recent release of "Formation", which gained a lot of attention after her 2016 Super Bowl performance. During the performance her amongst her background dancers were dressed in reference to the "Black Panther Movement" in the 1960's-80's. For this she's known for being "unapologetically black". During a part of Lemonade, you will hear quotes from Malcolm X's speech. "The most disrespected person in America is the black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the black woman". This video showed us a different side of "Bey" that we've never seen before, it was raw and unfiltered. She showcased what a lot of women go through from hurt, love, confusion, joy and pain. In the latter part of the video, she shows a home video of her when she was a young girl and father on the couch having a conversation and a good time together. While the video is being shown her song "Daddy's Lesson" is playing. This song is personally my favorite for the entire album. It really touched a soft place in my heart, being that I recently lost my father. This song pays homage to her father for making her into the tough strong women she is today. The verse from the song says "When trouble comes in town, men like me come around, oh my daddy said 'shoot.' My daddy said 'shoot." I can defintaly relate to the lyrics of the song. My dad was also an amazing man, whom I owe so much of my life too. (Read my blog post about my father) This visual album was absolutely amazing, and if you haven't had a chance to see it. The entire 12 track album is available on Tidal. And is available on iTunes. "When trouble comes in town, men like me come around, oh my daddy said 'shoot.' My daddy said 'shoot." | "The most disrespected person in America is the black woman". |

Writer: Tenesha Hughes King Skrilla has started the new year off with a leap. 1. What is the meaning behind calling your new project The Leap? My project is called “The Leap” because it’s a short story about a young man taking a huge risk by leaving his current job to pursue his dream full time. I had to take a leap of faith. It was very uncomfortable, as you will hear in the music, but it was worth it. I wanted to tell my story in hopes of inspiring people to take leaps in their lives too. I wanted to let them know that taking that leap doesn’t mean everything’s gonna work out the way you intended it to, but it will work out. It has to. 2. What makes this project different from the others? This project is different because it’s probably the most organic one I’ve done to date. I produced every record, which was a challenge for me. I didn’t want it to sound like anything out right now. I stuck to my gut feeling. Also, this process was crazy man. Like, it literally took me like 7 months to complete these 5 songs because as I was going through these different emotions, I would get inspired to write these songs. So what you hear is literally all me. Raw and unfiltered. A sonic documentation of the process. 3. How can fans connect with you and become Royal Supporters? Fans of my music can easily subscribe to my email list by simply emailing me at [email protected] or texting me at 618-223-5415. You can hit me on any of my social media accounts and I’ll plug you in that way. 4. What are the benefits of beings a Royal Supporter? My Royal Supporters receive motivational quotes at random and they get the info FIRST. Like as soon as I decide what content I want to release, they get notified first before anyone else. They also receive music first too.. Like I have a few Royal Supporters that’s bumping the EP already. I randomly selected them. I wanna look out for the people that support me and stay connected to them. The love is real. 5. What are you goals in this year of 2016? My goals for 2016 are simple. Aside from growing as a human being, I wanna focus on getting my music heard by more people. Not because I wanna “get on”.. I mean, that would be awesome! But so that I can reach more people. Music is powerful and I have to focus on using my gift instead of just trying to be the next big thing in the game. I’m not downplaying success at all, but for 2016, my focus is the people and whatever happens from there will happen. "Only thing left .. my EP comes on out February 8, 2016 via Sound Cloud and Audiomack. Check it out, share it if you love it. And in 2016, take that Leap toward your goals. The bigger the risk, the bigger the reward. One love." “This is one of the hardest things I’ll ever have to deal with. You were the first man I ever loved. You cared for me and protected me from any and everything. It is such a blessing to be able to call you daddy. I’ll miss your laugh, your contagious smile and your encouraging words that only you could give me. You’ve touch so many hearts. I’ll be strong for you because you were such a strong man who never complained about anything. You’re the most hardworking man I’ve ever known. I’m going to miss dancing and joking with you because no one got our jokes like we did. Your spirt will forever live within me. My 23 years have been full of pure genuine love thanks to you. You are what a real man consist of. Because of you I know my worth, I will not settle for anything less than what I deserve. I can’t thank you enough. I’m forever grateful and blessed to be your daughter. You’ll always be in my heart and I’ll always be “Daddy’s little girl”. Rest in Heaven: 1.11.2016 Love, Tenesha Writer: Tenesha Hughes
Dylan Douglas a native of Thibodaux LA, is taking on the fashion industry with his newly found clothing line entitled New Rules. This clothing line is not only fashionable but also has had a positive message behind it. “The message of New Rules is to get people to start being themselves and not be worried about what others think of them by what they're wearing, or how they look! That's a big problem with our culture, now people are doing stuff for others and not for themselves. The logo is a man with dreads wearing a suit with shorts instead of business pants, no one would ever try that, maybe a few but not many,” said Douglas. New Rules started off with just an idea of letting others be themselves with just a simple plain color or white T- shirt. Now it has evolved and is steady growing from its male to female attire, and shirts with zippers. As a senior Business Marking major at Jackson State University he sees marketing as a competition, who can come up with the best brand idea for a company. “I feel like I have a head full of ideas. Also I like to be hands on at what I do and marketing is a very hands on field. I use marketing tools with my clothing line by getting the right people into my idea and I use social media a lot to promote my clothing which helps me get to my target market,” said Douglas. Styles that stand out and make a statement is what catches his eye and keeps his ideas flowing. Celebrities that aren't afraid to live a little and standout such as Kanye West, Future, and Chris Brown are some of his fashion icons. Even though he is interested in all kinds of fashion, in his opinion low end sometimes has more value in the way fashion trend is going right now relating back to the 80’s style. Being comfortable with what you want to wear is inspiring, so embrace it. Fashion doesn't always have to be about following a trend you also start the trend or be the trend. Put on what ever makes you happy. “Yes I feel like it's a big trend, but it's people out there who have their own style and I love to see that in people. We don't have to do what everyone else is doing it is time to be ourselves. Especially if you know you can't afford something's don't go out and try and get them because you see it on TV, or on someone else’s Instagram. You don't need money to be fly, being fly is being yourself”, said Douglas. With fashion being just a hobby, doing it and being able to see my clothing on campus is a thrill, knowing that his brand is being noticed. Fashion school could possibly be in future if the opportunity presents itself but, his main career goals are to be successful and own his own marketing firm, while bringing his clothing line to the raptors and being top of the line. “My main goal is to get my shirts around the world to where I know my message is out there. Once I get it into the right celebrity hands it's going to explode. My main goal is to get it into skate shops and hip hop clothing stores, also get my own manufactures. I like to keep bringing out new gear now I'm elevating to do female fashion stuff also, 2015 bout to be a big year”, said Douglas” If you are a person trying to own or start your own business Douglas says it’s not always going to be easy. “Go with you first idea don't worry bout what others think because it's your thoughts and mind, but also you have to be ambitious because times are going to get tough. When it feels like you’re not selling anything but you have to keep pushing", said Douglas. "Worse thing you can do to an artist is place them in a box. So just let me create. Don't label me, just allow the music to paint pictures of not only my thoughts , but yours as well. "I figured I could tell you about my experience with the camera". I have always liked taking pictures during my Facebook days, I would occasionally take pictures and post to my profile. It was until recently that I learn how much I love photography. But, as a music artist living in Jackson Ms, there is not many people who sees the music industry profitable but I do. I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion, which is one of the many reasons why my brand name is CityVision. I bought a Canon camera in late 2014 do to the fact Jackson Ms, does not have a heavy media focus on music, and that is one of my main focal points. I eventually want to have a magazine published with local business owners and artists etc. something similar to XXL or Jet Magazine. Right now I am in the process of trying to get a website started to showcase my work. My first few events with my camera was at Jackson State University Homecoming week. I worked with DJ TLewis, J.Skyy, Rae Sermmurd, Fulla Flava and Royal Blue Boutique. As a beginner photographer it is difficult to network with people to build your portfolio properly but, I have managed to capture some great memories so far. "I have more great ideas for the future, it just takes time for me to get people to see what I see". Tenesha Hughes
Writer With her newly released YouTube series entitled ‘THE GOSSIP BOXX’, Nitkya Wilikins (Neon Amor) keeps listeners up to date with all the latest inside celebrity gossip. The Jackson State University senior mass communication major is slowly working her way into the urban radio and television industry. More than ever the 23 year old from Chicago, Illl is determined to make it in the next two years by the age of 25. “I have so much work and craft to jump into the field of urban radio/TV broadcasting head first, but I know it won't be easy. I'm ready for the let downs, but I'm built to succeed. Everyone will know who Neon Amor is sooner or later. I am the 21st century Radio/TV New problem child”, said Neon Amor. Being from the hardcore streets of South side Chicago, she used her surrounding as a form of inspiration. “My city inspired my style because Chicago has an urban, raw, hardcore feel to it. So, eventually I took to my surroundings and Neon Amor was born. I wouldn't say any celebrity is like me, because I'm hard to copy. But, if I could choose one I would say I am the female Charlamagne Tha God. He is edgy and straight forward, he never sugar coats his thoughts and that's what's up. I look up to Wendy Williams, because I respect her work ethic and how she came on the scene. Now, don't get me wrong she does take things to far, but she gets the job done”, said Neon Amor. We all know many celebrities who have used the popular platform of YouTube to get their start at fame. YouTube allows billions of people to discover, watch and share originally-created videos. YouTube provides a forum for people to connect, inform, and inspire others across the globe and acts as a distribution platform for original content creators and advertisers large and small. “We chose YouTube because everyone loves and visits YouTube. A lot of celebrities have gotten a lot of exposure and fame from this social media site and Ivory and I felt it was a good move to make towards the project” said Neon Amor. Even though she is using YouTube to jumpstart her career, she hopes ‘THE GOSSIP BOXX’ finds its way to a television screen near you. “I want the show to be picked up by someone in New York or California. Whether it is VH1, MTV, BRAVO or BET I want my ambition and talent to be noticed by professionals”, said Neon Amor. The show is in its second season and is continuously growing through fan base and quality. The show has drama, comedy and commercial breaks just like your favorite television show. There is more to come as episodes are posted, so be on the look out for a music choice section, multiple guest hosts, more topics etc. Neon Amor is back and better than ever. This is the year of Gods favor and rest. Everything that God does has a purpose and everything is on time and in order. The number 15 is symbolic for rest and favor in the bible. God is about to release somethings that have never been done before, record breaking favor. All we have to do is decree it, say it with our mouth and believe it. We are the head and not the tail the leader and not the follower. God said I can that you might have life and have it more abundantly. If you have a chose between silver and gold or love and favor, always chose love and favor because God's love is unconditional. There are somethings money can't do that favor can. Money can't rock you in the midnight hour, it can't heal your broken heart, but Gods favor can. When you walk in the favor of God money is not an object. If you need money and you're walking in the favor of God he will find you money. If God tells you to do something he will find the money for you, he knows where it is and he knows how to get it. It's important to spend time with God in prayer. The best time to pray is early in the morning as soon as you wake up, and he will direct your path and get your day start right. Love on God, Brag on God, let him know how good he is and he will bless you. God is not a God who likes evil, make sure God is leading you because you can't eat off of everyone's table. He will bless the righteous with Blessing and Favor they are inseparable, you can't have the blessings of God without the favor of God. So if you have done something for a long time and have worked very hard at it, follow through with it and never give up. What good is it to have the degree and never use it? Follow your dreams and passion and keep the faith along the way. Don't quit it is your year don't give up, that thing you've been praying to God about he has has favor over your life. Every promise is tied to obedience , live right for God and commit to him. But, keep in mind that none of this can happen with out making changes in your life. We all can use room for improvement and growth take those things that are hindering you from your goals and put away. There are some changes we need to make our live Genesis 12:2 |
