Hello loyal supporters,
First & foremost, I would like to say "Thank you". Thank you for consistently supporting me throughout the progression of my musical career, especially at a time when music isn't quite appreciated like I personally feel it should be. Thank you for telling your family and friends about my music. Thank you all for the likes, shares, retweets, reposts etc. because you are not obligated to promote my movement, but you do, and I thank God for you all. This letter is for you.
Some of you all may have been wondering what's been the reason behind my musical inactivity lately. Although I dropped "Impala Summer", I haven't been as active as I once was. Here's my explanation: COMPLANCENCY. Yep, I admit it. After dropping my album "Stay Tuned for Greatness" in April, I had a lot going on, especially leading up to my graduation from Jackson State University. After graduating, I moved back home, where I felt the need to relax and take in everything peacefully. I am a lover of life, lover of peace and serenity, but in that same peace and serenity I became content and contentment is a silent killer. It can easily blindside and persuade you that everything's okay, while killing your spirit and chasing away the very dreams you once chased. I got lazy musically, and for that, I apologize.
Also, I've allowed my passion for my hometown to overshadow my passion for my music (specifically referring to the youth in East St. Louis, Illinois). So I took the job as a Career Specialist in East St. Louis, where I helped employ over 100 youth. That experience was beyond dope! I believe in providing my people with opportunities that will help them grow mentally, spiritually and financially, but having a 9-5 was taking a huge toll on my creativity and peace of mind. I got thrown off, wrapped up in the professional world... distracted. I learned that a 9-5 isn't for me and that in order to accomplish my goals (musically), I must give 100%. I get it now.
Another reason (no excuse) for my musical absence is my beautiful princess, Seanelle. She's my niece and she requires a lot of my attention. Being off in school, hours away, was hard on our relationship and there are some things that I felt that could have been prevented if I were physically present in her life, but I wasn't. As a response, I made it my business to dedicate my love, time and patience to her in order to insure her success. Taking her to school, church, helping her with homework, and spending quality time with her were all things I felt were essential to her succeeding academically and spiritually. She has improved incredibly! That's been taking a lot of my time. I will not apologize for that but I still feel as though you all deserve to know.
With all of this being said, I've learned some things. I've learned that although I'm a lover of life, lover of peace, I cannot allow stagnation and complacency to form in my spirit. I've learned that even though I care so so so very much about my people in East St. Louis, I cannot neglect my purpose, passion and calling, for this gift was given to me from God and I must live out the script he has written for me in this "play" we call life. I've learned that no matter what unfortunate situation may arise, I must keep my focus! For I cannot assist any person or situation to the best of my ability until I have walked in my own destiny first. I thank God for growth and wisdom. I thank God for my gift. I thank God for you all! This is my season. New music is on the way. I will keep grinding until I am successful. #StayTunedForGreatness
